We are seeking a Materials Characterization Expert with strong hands-on experience in advanced analytical techniques to support coatings and superalloy development, failure analysis, and quality investigations. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to generate high-quality microstructural, phase, and property data that enables robust engineering decisions. The candidate will also conduct chemistry based experiments for thin film coatings.Job DescriptionSite Overview
Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.
Role Summary-
Roles Overview:
- Materials Characterization & Analysis
- Perform Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), including imaging, EDS/EDX analysis, EBSD analysis and fractography for coatings and superalloys.
- Conduct X-ray Diffraction (XRD) measurements for phase identification, residual stress measurements, and texture analysis.
- Utilize additional characterization techniques such as optical microscopy, hardness testing, image analysis, surface profilometry, and other relevant methods for coatings and high-temperature alloys.
- Proficient in metallographic sample preparation techniques: sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, etching for coatings and superalloys
- Data Interpretation & Reporting
- Analyze and interpret microstructure, phase content, and defects in coatings, and superalloy microstructures.
- Translate test results into clear, actionable conclusions for material selection and design.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and summaries, and present findings.
- Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with materials, coating experts, manufacturing, and quality engineers to support development programs.
- Support method development, standardization, and continuous improvement of characterization procedures and workflows.
- Adhere strictly to all EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) and quality procedures.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance throughput, data quality, and reliability of test methods.
- Coating Chemistry: Work under limited guidance for developing thin film coatings via different methods.
