This position is based in Evendale, Ohio and supports the Military Systems – Special Programs business. The organization is responsible for executing sensitive and classified programs that are critical to our defense customers and national security. As programs transition from research and development into production, the team ensures robust, compliant, and scalable security practices that protect people, facilities, and information across the lifecycle.

You will partner closely with engineering, program management, operations, legal, and executive leadership, as well as U.S. Government security counterparts, to deliver secure program execution in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment.

Role Overview

The Senior Security Director – Advanced Programs provides multi‑disciplinary security leadership for classified government programs within the Military Systems business. This role is accountable for the security of personnel, facilities, computers, general information, and information systems supporting sensitive and classified activities.

As a second‑line people leader, you will manage and develop a medium to large team of security professionals, overseeing day‑to‑day tactical security operations while also shaping longer‑term strategy, policy, and capability for advanced programs. You will use your deep understanding of government security requirements, industry trends, and evolving threats to inform decisions, influence policy, and guide the business as it scales programs from development into full-rate production.

A critical aspect of this role is knowing when to handle issues tactically and when to escalate them to a more strategic level, effectively delegating and prioritizing work from executive leadership, and maintaining strong, productive relationships with U.S. Government security counterparts (e.g., within Department of Defense security organizations).

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead multi-disciplinary security operationsEnsure the security of personnel, facilities, computers, general information, and information systems for classified U.S. Government programs, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and customer requirements.

  • Manage and develop a high-performing teamServe as a second‑line leader with senior professional direct reports, managing a medium to large security team. Attract, retain, and develop talent; set clear expectations; and foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Balance tactical execution and strategic escalationAddress day‑to‑day security and compliance issues, while recognizing when to elevate risks or decisions to a more strategic level. Delegate and prioritize work effectively, especially items originating from executive staff and enterprise initiatives.

  • Shape security policy and influence the businessInterpret internal and external business challenges, industry trends, and emerging security requirements to recommend best practices. Influence policy and operating guidelines within your function and across related functions in the business.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and projectsLead or sponsor functional teams and projects with moderate to high resource requirements, risk, and complexity. Present security strategies and business solutions to functional and business leaders, and drive adoption of recommended approaches.

  • Engage and negotiate with internal and external stakeholdersCommunicate complex security topics clearly to a range of audiences. Influence peers, negotiate with internal leaders, and engage effectively with external partners, vendors, customers, and U.S. Government security representatives.

  • Exercise financial and operational influenceContribute to and influence budgets within your scope (e.g., secure facilities, tooling, systems, and staffing). Ensure security investments align with business priorities and deliver measurable risk reduction.

  • Drive problem solving and decision-makingLead others in developing creative, compliant solutions to complex security challenges. Evaluate the quality of information received, question conflicting data, and leverage multiple internal and external resources to arrive at sound decisions.

Required Qualifications
  • Security Clearance

    • Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Education and Experience (U.S. roles)

    • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or collegeOR High school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in relevant security, special programs, or related job family group(s)/function(s).
    • 5-8 years relevant experience

    • Established project management skills and a track record of driving results in a regulated or highly controlled environment.
  • Government and industry engagement

    • Strong working relationships and credible contacts within U.S. Government security organizations (e.g., Department of Defense security entities), with a proven ability to collaborate, negotiate, and resolve issues.
    • Understanding of current and emerging security policies, regulations, and industry best practices affecting classified programs.
  • Business acumen

    • Experience supporting programs transitioning from research and development into production, including scaling security capabilities to meet evolving program needs.
    • Ability to interpret business challenges and industry trends, and to translate them into practical, risk‑informed security strategies.
