This role will own capacity visibility, operational readiness, and strategic supplier engagement across the coatings supply base (50+ suppliers), ensuring the organization can support current and future demand, NPI, and cost/productivity initiatives while mitigating capacity and continuity-of-supply risks.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Capacity & Readiness Management
- Lead deep-dive capacity assessments across prioritized thermal spray, chemical process and the special process supply base.
- Develop and maintain capacity models to identify current and future constraints.
- Establish readiness plans to ensure sufficient capacity for demand growth, surge, and recovery scenarios.
- Partner with value stream leaders, planning, and operations to align capacity plans with demand signals.
Strategic Supplier Engagement
- Segment and prioritize the 50+ coatings suppliers, identifying strategic partners vs. transactional suppliers.
- Drive strategic relationship plans with key thermal spray and chemical process providers, including regular ops reviews and performance improvement plans.
- Work with Sourcing, Quality, and Engineering to identify and qualify additional capacity (new sources, additional booths, shifts, or capabilities) as needed.
Support for NPI and Cost/Productivity Initiatives
- Act as coatings operations focal for NPIs, ensuring capacity and readiness are validated early in the NPI cycle.
- Identify and execute cost-out and productivity opportunities in the coatings supply base (e.g., footprint optimization, consolidation, process improvements).
- Partner with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Value Stream teams to balance cost, capability, and risk.
Risk Management & Escalation
- Proactively identify capacity and readiness risks.
- Create and maintain a coatings risk register with clear mitigation actions, owners, and timelines.
- When required, escalate emerging risks and propose mitigation options (new sources, capital investment, lead-time changes) to leadership.
Operational Rhythm & Reporting
- Own thermal spray/chemical process capacity and readiness content for senior-level operating rhythms.
- Provide data-driven insights on current capacity, bottlenecks, and required actions, focused on non-TAVs coatings.
- Standardize reporting and dashboards so leadership has a clear view of coatings readiness and risk.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Sourcing, Supply Chain, Operations, Project Management, or Capacity Planning
Desired Characteristics
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to manipulate, model, and interpret complex data sets to drive decisions
- Advanced Excel / data analysis skills (e.g., pivot tables, dashboards, scenario modeling); experience with data visualization tools is a plus
- Comfortable translating data into clear, concise insights and actions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, operations, engineering, and value stream leaders
- Skilled at influencing without direct authority, driving alignment and action across multiple functions and levels of the organization
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to clearly brief executives and participate in senior-level operating rhythms
- Proven track record of proactive problem solving, following through on commitments, and closing actions
- High level of ownership and accountability, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
