The Senior Tool Designer/Tooling Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, optimization, and lifecycle management of manufacturing tooling in a high-complexity aircraft environment. This role provides technical leadership across tool design and continuous improvement initiatives while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of complex tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process
- Create tool design concepts based on written tool requirements
- Ability to review and modify existing tool designs
- Assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring tooling and production issues
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase tool life, reliability, and efficiency
- Work with tooling suppliers to support the manufacture of tools you have designed
- Assist in tool trials, validation, and production readiness
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements
- Previous Lockheed Martin tooling experience a plus, but not required
- 100 onsite support required at the Lockheed Marietta, GA facility
- Must be able to walk extended distance to shop floor as required
- Must be able to climb multiple sets of stairs as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent years of experience
- Minimum of 15 years of Aircraft or Aerospace tooling experience
- Advanced knowledge of tooling design, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Strong proficiency in Catia version 5 software and Geometric Dimensioning &Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience in problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and process optimization
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
